Other than films, Anand has appeared in many Marathi television shows and he was renowned to the Marathi audience during his time. The most popular Hindi films in which he acted were Vaastav (1999) and Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain (2000) both of which were directed by Mahesh Manjrekar. His calibre in Marathi films had instinctively carried him into Hindi films. Later on, he had even directed a Marathi film Majhi Vithai Mauli. The film Matichya Chuli (2006) had replaced him for the deceased actor Sudhir Joshi on account of which Anand played the role of two different characters in the same film. His beginning though was with Marathi films in which he had donned a variety of characters like that of a comedian, a serious person, and alsoa character of other types. His roles as Paropkari Gampu and Gaja Khot for the theatrical adaptation of the book Vyakti Aani Valli written by Pu La Deshpande are quite noteworthy.Ībhyankar’s advance from theatre to Hindi films had relegated him to some cameo and side roles but it had taken him to a national audience. Following this, another play titled Aai Retire Hotey in which Anand acted turned out to be extremely successfulthat performed over 950 times. This play was outstandingly successful, meting out more than a 1000 shows. The play was produced by Rasikraj Productions and directed by Mangesh Kadam. His first commercial theatre act was Kuryat Sada Tingalam which was a comedy written by Shivraj Gorle. Having worked in Bajaj Auto for two years, he eventually entered into Marathi theatre and became an enthusiastic actor. He had the innate desire of acting when he was graduating. After his schooling was completed in Nagpur, he moved to Pune for his graduation in commerce at the Garware College. His father was a labour welfare officer and his mother was employed at the Post and Telegraph department. The entire Marathi film industry wasbereaved by the sudden death of the two young and popular actors.With Anand Abhyankar’s departure, only his legacy of films remains and he will be known as an actor of the yesteryears.īorn in Nagpur to parents Moreshwar and Ashadevi, Anand belonged to a middle-class family. An unfortunate car accident in Pune had killedAnand Abhyankaralong with the 35 year old Marathi actor Akshay Pendse and his two year old son Pratyush Pendse.Before Anand’s death, he had been playing a character’s role in the serial Mala Sasu Havi on Zee Marathi. Anand Abhyankar’s unnatural death when he was on the right side of 49 had shocked the entire Marathi film industry.
